“The most common question I am asked by beginners is – how long until I can play on the course. The answer is different for everyone, but one of my key goals is to get players onto the golf course as quickly possible. To learn and practice the skills needed to play golf you must see how they come together when you get to the golf course”
Andrew Knott

There are many reasons why people want to learn to play golf, it is a sport that offers so many wonderful opportunities that just aren’t available in any other sport.

  • You can play golf and enjoy recreational time with friends, family or make new acquaintances
  • Golf is shared by the old and the young side by side
  • Players of all levels can play and compete together
  • Golf is a pleasant way to do business
  • It can be played all around the world, include it in your holiday or business trip
  • The playing area is always different and you can play the courses your favourite players play on TV

Whatever your reason for wanting to start playing golf, the prospect of getting started can be daunting. You want to do it but you’re just not sure what to expect, how long it will take or whether you will be able to hit the ball at all. You may have been to the driving range to see if you like it, then been intimidated watching the ball fly high away into the distance from bays all around you.

Everyone started out here, so there really is nothing to be daunted by, I can remember all too clearly my early days in golf and it wasn’t pretty! But the good thing is the development can be quick. The key to progression is good solid foundations, where most people go wrong when starting out for themselves or with well meaning friends who have played the game for a long time, is that they don’t get these foundations correct before moving into the swing.

  • Alignment – of club and body
  • Grip – how to hold and position your hands
  • Posture – how to stand at the ball
  • Stance – how wide to have our feet and distance from the ball
  • Ball position – where we place the ball relative to our feet

Knowing what areas you are going to cover and seeing the path to progression relieves some of the tension from the unknown. I can’t say categorically how well or far you will hit the ball after 6 lessons, that will be different for every person, but by having a plan I can say that you will have a sound knowledge of the basics and a foundation in all areas of the game to build on.

“Need a Golf trainer in Bangkok? Go and see Andrew Knott!
I owe it to him that I haven’t given up the Golf Game! Most important for me was, that he never stopped encouraging me to try again. He is one of the most committed teachers I have ever had. His training skills are exceptional; he is capable of deeply analysing student’s needs and to customize a training program. Anytime I would return to Andrew Knott to study Golf with him again.”

Andrea Waldbrunner – Bangkok Thailand

I am a class AA PGA Professional (member PGA of Great Britain & Ireland) and as such have undertaken intensive training at University degree and UK government training level (level 2 coach) to be able to provide the best golf lesson experience available. This training includes areas such as:

  • The technical aspects of the movements (swings/stroke) in all areas of the game
  • Running group sessions and teaching on a one to one basis
  • How to plan sessions and linking series of lessons together
  • The learning process and how different people find out
  • Junior development
  • Sports science
  • Equipment technology and custom fitting

I have more than 5,000 hours of teaching experience and have taught more than 75 players who had none or very little experience of the golf, that are now enjoying all the many fun things golf offers.

Through this experience I discovered over a course of 6 lessons everyone can learn the basics and foundations and that everyone can get the experience of playing on a real golf course (Par 3 course). This time frame also allows flexibility, we can switch the lesson order around and most importantly the speed of development will be dictated by how well each individual picks up each skill set.

These 6 lesson packages are now run by our senior instructor or instructors who have trained under me for more than 2 years to give you the best experience

The lesson plan is purely a guide of what can be expected and covered. Each lesson is adapted and suited to an individuals needs and preferences.

  1. Introduction to golf and fundamentals of swing:
  2. – We start with a brief chat to find out a bit more about you, your interests and why you want to learn to play golf, this is essential to setting the tone of how I will structure your lessons.
    - This is followed by a very basic outline of the game, the different clubs and how they work
    - Foundations of the swing: alignment and grip, now the fun starts let’s hit some golf balls!

  3. More fundamentals and swing building:
  4. - Foundations of the swing: posture, stance and ball position
    - The big picture of the swing, how the club travels around your body

  5. Introduction to the short game:
  6. - Putting: the importance of and how to consistently roll the ball towards and into the hole
    - Chipping: what is it and the simple basics that most golfers don’t know about

  7. Swing and/or short game building:
  8. - Lets do some more work on building your swing or if you would rather a follow up on your chipping and putting, we all have different strengths and weaknesses

  9. Play the Par 3 golf course:
  10. Currently unavailable as the local Par 3 shut down in December 2012 – we can create some mock holes at our academy
    - It’s time to see how all the theory and techniques come together, this is what we are really here for to play golf, so no matter how you are progressing have no fears I want you to play

  11. Introduction to woods and more game development
  12. - How the fundamentals change and are applied to hitting the woods
    - After the playing the course you will have a better idea of what needs the most work for you to come to grips with the game.

Getting out onto the golf course is an essential part of learning and more importantly the fun of improving at golf. It doesn’t matter what the level of the course you just need to get out there as soon as possible to see that golf is about getting the ball in the hole in the fewest amount of shots possible!

There are many ways to achieve this goal and knowing your strengths is key to being successful and enjoying learning to play golf.

A Par 3 course is a perfect place to start for golfers of all ages and ability levels. It introduces all but the longest of shots, which takes away the pressure of trying to hit the ball too far and most importantly it is a lot quieter, so less eyes watching and putting pressure on how long things are taking – we will advise you where your nearest one is.

Nothing more than some comfortable loose clothing, training shoes and a sense of adventure a great journey is about to begin.
